About the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is Illinois’s annual statewide math test for elementary students. Taken during March–April, it assesses mastery of Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics (ILS) standards.
For grade 3 math, the IAR assesses knowledge across areas like multiplication & division, place value & computation, fractions, time, mass & volume, and more. Students encounter multiple-choice, constructed-response, and performance-based items.
We designed our practice exams to closely replicate the IAR experience — same format, similar difficulty, and matching content coverage.
About ILS Math Standards
Illinois follows the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics (ILS) for math instruction. At the grade 3 math level, the standard covers 7 areas of focus:
- Multiplication & Division — master multiplication facts, equal groups, arrays, and the relationship between multiplication and division
- Place Value & Computation — understand place value up to thousands, round whole numbers, and add or subtract within 1,000
- Fractions — explore fractions as parts of a whole, compare fractions on number lines, and discover equivalent fractions
- Time, Mass & Volume — tell time to the nearest minute, solve elapsed-time problems, and measure mass and liquid volume
- Graphs & Data — create and interpret picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots
- Area & Perimeter — calculate area using unit squares and multiplication, and find perimeters of polygons
- Geometry & Shapes — classify 2-d shapes by their attributes and partition shapes into equal parts
The alignment between our Grade 3 Math books and Illinois’s standards means students practice the skills they’ll actually be tested on.
