About the Connecticut Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC)
Designed around the Connecticut Core Standards for Mathematics (CT Core), the Connecticut Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) is Connecticut’s annual math assessment, taken by elementary students during March–May.
Across the grade 5 math SBAC, students are tested on decimal operations, fraction operations, expressions & patterns, volume & measurement and related domains. The assessment combines multiple-choice, short-answer, and performance-based formats.
Each practice test is modeled after the actual SBAC — same topics, same types of questions, and the same level of challenge.
