About the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA)
Each year, Washington administers the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) to assess student achievement in math. This statewide assessment, given March–June, is aligned to the Washington K-12 Learning Standards: Mathematics (WA Standards).
The grade 8 math portion of the SBA tests students on a wide range of topics, including the number system, expressions & equations, functions, geometry, and more. Questions include multiple-choice, short-answer, and sometimes performance-based items.
By closely mirroring the SBA in format and content, our practice tests give students the confidence they need to succeed.
