Georgia Grade 4 Milestones Math: Major Domains

The Georgia Milestones Grade 4 EOG assesses student mastery of the Grade 4 Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE), which are based on the Common Core State Standards. The major content domains include:

1. A baker makes 24 loaves of bread each day. How many loaves does she make in 15 days?

Answer: 360 loaves. (24 × 15 = 360)

2. A school ordered 3,456 pencils for 8 classrooms. If the pencils are divided equally, how many pencils does each classroom receive?

Answer: 432 pencils. (3,456 ÷ 8 = 432)

3. A toy store had 2,385 toys in stock. It sold 748 toys on Saturday and 634 toys on Sunday. How many toys remained?

Answer: 1,003 toys. (748 + 634 = 1,382; 2,385 − 1,382 = 1,003)

4. List all the factors of 36.

Answer: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36.

5. Is 47 a prime or composite number? Explain.

Answer: Prime. 47 has no factors other than 1 and 47.

Worksheet 2: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division

6. Use the standard algorithm to multiply: 4,237 × 6

Answer: 25,422.

7. Multiply: 48 × 73

Answer: 3,504. (48 × 70 = 3,360; 48 × 3 = 144; 3,360 + 144 = 3,504)

8. Divide: 896 ÷ 7

Answer: 128.

9. A field trip costs $28 per student. If 134 students attend, what is the total cost?

Answer: $3,752. (134 × 28 = 3,752)

10. 5,239 students are seated equally in 9 sections of an auditorium. How many students are in each section, and how many are left over?

Answer: 582 students per section, 1 left over. (9 × 582 = 5,238; 5,239 − 5,238 = 1)

Worksheet 3: Fractions and Mixed Numbers

11. Write two fractions equivalent to 3/4 by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator.

Example answers: 6/8, 9/12, 12/16.

12. Add: 3/8 + 5/8

Answer: 8/8 = 1.

13. Subtract: 7/10 − 4/10

Answer: 3/10.

14. Write 2¾ as an improper fraction.

Answer: 11/4. (2 × 4 + 3 = 11)

15. Order from least to greatest: 5/6, 1/2, 2/3

Convert to sixths: 5/6, 3/6, 4/6. Order: 1/2, 2/3, 5/6.

16. Write 0.7 as a fraction. Write 0.35 as a fraction.

0.7 = 7/10. 0.35 = 35/100 = 7/20.

17. Convert: 3 yards to feet; 2.5 kilograms to grams; 4 liters to milliliters.

3 yd = 9 ft. 2.5 kg = 2,500 g. 4 L = 4,000 mL.

18. A rectangle has a perimeter of 52 cm. Its width is 10 cm. What is the length?

Perimeter = 2(l + w) → 52 = 2(l + 10) → l + 10 = 26 → l = 16 cm.

19. Use a protractor to classify each angle: 35°, 90°, 127°, 180°.

35° = acute. 90° = right. 127° = obtuse. 180° = straight.

20. A quadrilateral has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles. What is it called?

A square.

21. How many lines of symmetry does a square have?

4 lines of symmetry (2 through opposite sides, 2 through opposite corners).

Common Georgia Milestones Grade 4 Mistakes

  • Forgetting to regroup in multi-digit multiplication: In 4,237 × 6, students sometimes forget to carry the tens digit from 7 × 6 = 42. Encourage students to write the carry digits visibly above each column.
  • Adding numerators AND denominators when adding fractions: 3/8 + 5/8 ≠ 8/16. Only add the numerators; the denominator stays the same because the “size” of the pieces hasn’t changed.
  • Confusing area and perimeter formulas: Area = length × width (square units). Perimeter = 2(length + width) (linear units). Third-graders who weren’t taught the formulas explicitly guess one when they need the other.
  • Interpreting remainders incorrectly: When a word problem gives a division with a remainder, students need to decide whether to round up, round down, or report the remainder. “How many buses are needed?” rounds up. “How many groups of 5 can be formed?” rounds down.

3-Week Georgia Grade 4 Milestones Math Study Plan

Week 1: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division

Practice the standard algorithm for multiplication (4-digit × 1-digit and 2-digit × 2-digit). Practice long division with remainders. Focus on multi-step word problems that combine multiplication and division. End with a 10-problem timed drill.
