Review perimeter, area, volume, angle relationships, coordinate planes, units, graphs, mean, median, range, probability, and interpretation of data displays. Many candidates underestimate this section because the topics feel familiar, but the questions can be wordy.

How to Study Without Wasting Time
Start with a diagnostic set, then sort every miss into the ETS categories. Do not write “I am bad at math” in your notes. Write specific labels such as “fraction of a number,” “perimeter vs. area,” “mean vs. median,” or “equation setup.”
- Week 1: Review numbers and operations. Focus on fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, and word problems.

Calculator Strategy
ETS notes an on-screen scientific calculator for the Mathematics subtest. A calculator can help with arithmetic, but it will not choose the operation, identify the formula, or set up a proportion. Practice enough calculator use that you are comfortable, but do not let it replace number sense. On many items, the hard part is deciding what to calculate.
During practice, solve some problems without a calculator first, then use the calculator to check. This builds estimation and prevents keying errors. If your estimate says the answer should be near 50 and the calculator displays 500, you know to check the setup before moving on.
Also practice entering fractions, exponents, decimals, and parentheses carefully. Some wrong answers come from calculator input, not from math understanding.
