Add, subtract, multiply polynomials; factor trinomials, difference of squares, and GCF
Graph parabolas, solve by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula
Model exponential growth and decay; work with arithmetic and geometric sequences
Construct scatter plots, fit lines of best fit, interpret two-way tables and residuals
About the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress — Grade 11 Math (CAASPP)
During January–June, California students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress — Grade 11 Math (CAASPP), an assessment covering Algebra 1 skills required by the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CA CCSS).
The Algebra 1 CAASPP tests students on foundations of algebra, linear equations & inequalities, introduction to functions, linear functions & graphing, systems of equations & inequalities, and more. Questions include multiple-choice, short-answer, and sometimes performance-based items.
Each practice test is modeled after the actual CAASPP — same topics, same types of questions, and the same level of challenge.
About CA CCSS Algebra 1 Standards
Under California’s California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CA CCSS), Algebra 1 students are expected to gain proficiency in 9 domains:
- Foundations of Algebra — classify real numbers, apply properties of operations, work with exponents and radicals
- Linear Equations & Inequalities — solve one-variable equations and inequalities, rearrange formulas, and handle absolute value
- Introduction to Functions — understand function definitions, notation, domain and range, and calculate slope
- Linear Functions & Graphing — write equations in slope-intercept, standard, and point-slope forms; graph and transform lines
- Systems of Equations & Inequalities — solve systems of two linear equations graphically and algebraically; graph inequality systems
- Polynomials & Factoring — add, subtract, multiply polynomials; factor trinomials, difference of squares, and gcf
- Quadratic Functions & Equations — graph parabolas, solve by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula
- Exponential Functions & Sequences — model exponential growth and decay; work with arithmetic and geometric sequences
- Data Analysis & Statistics — construct scatter plots, fit lines of best fit, interpret two-way tables and residuals
Each Algebra 1 book for California maps directly to these standards, so students study the right material every time.
