About the Smarter Balanced Assessment — Grade 11 Math (SBA)

During March–May, South Dakota students participate in the Smarter Balanced Assessment — Grade 11 Math (SBA), an assessment covering Algebra 1 skills required by the South Dakota Mathematics Standards (SD Standards).

The Algebra 1 SBA tests students on foundations of algebra, linear equations & inequalities, introduction to functions, linear functions & graphing, systems of equations & inequalities, and more. Questions include multiple-choice, short-answer, and sometimes performance-based items.

Each practice test is modeled after the actual SBA — same topics, same types of questions, and the same level of challenge.
